Fantasy Baseball: Yordan Alvarez Takes the Top Spot

There’s a new name atop the weekly fantasy baseball Top 300, and it’s been a long time coming. Yordan Alvarez has displaced Bobby Witt Jr., whose sore knee is becoming a real concern, to claim the number one ranking for the first time in 2026.

After missing most of last season with a broken hand and ankle sprain (just 48 games), Alvarez is fully healthy and being deployed almost exclusively as a designated hitter, a conscious decision by Houston to protect his knees for the long haul. The results have followed: projections peg him for 30 plus home runs, a .290 average, and an OPS pushing 1.000. If you owned him through the 2025 frustration, the payoff is here.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Aaron Judge has tumbled to 141st after an injury with a 4 to 6 week uncertainty window, and Tarik Skubal is climbing back as he nears his return from elbow surgery. The Alvarez window won’t stay open in waiver wires much longer.
